Claire Kinnett Tate is the Director of POST (Partners In Out-Of-School Time). Tate has chaired POST since it began in 1998 as a planning initiative, convened by Foundation For The Carolinas, to study the needs of children and youth in the time they spend outside of school. In this role, Tate led a Steering Committee representing major community institutions, funders and practitioners to support the work of POST. She also chaired the POST Network, which provides the voice and insights of out-of-school time practitioners. Tate recently recruited 18 community leaders to form the POST Advisory Board. She was also instrumental in initiating programs in at-risk communities and obtaining funding to support various youth programs.

As a community leader, Tate is actively involved with numerous organizations in the Charlotte area, including American Leadership Forum, Mecklenburg County Children's Summit, First Presbyterian Church, Foundation For The Carolinas, Alliance of Part-Day Preschools For Children & Families, Lakewood Preschool Corporation, Central Avenue Bi-Lingual Preschool, Chapel of Christ the King Weekday School, Court Clubhouse, North Carolina Outward Bound Charlotte Committee, and Teen-Age Parents Services Supporters.

Tate, a Columbus, Ga. native, received a bachelor's degree in history from Sweet Briar College and has completed graduate coursework at Georgia State University and the University of North Carolina. Previously, she was a 6th grade teacher in Chapel Hill, a computer science instructor at Central Piedmont Community College and held various systems analyst positions.
