Middle School Matters (MSM) is a public/private partnership designed to ensure that Charlotte/Mecklenburg young people are successful in school and prepared for work and life in the 21st Century.

What is the goal of MSM?

To become a sustainable network of excellent afterschool programs serving at least 100 students at each of the 34 Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools middle schools.

How does MSM operate?

MSM provides middle school students with caring people, constructive places, and challenging possibilities for three hours after the school day ends.  Each program is located in a Charlotte-Mecklenburg Middle School and operated by an experienced community-based youth development organization.

MSM operates at four sites for the 2008-2009 school year:

MSM provides young people with a chance to:

v Extend learning beyond the classroom

v Master new skills, and discover talents and interests

v Learn about new educational and career opportunities

v Build skills needed for the 21st Century

v Meet adult mentors who help with homework and model life skills

v Become more deeply involved in the community

What is the best way for someone to help?

Make a 100% tax-deductible contribution to Middle School Matters and help secure a safe, constructive place where middle school students can spend their afterschool time.

Volunteer at a MSM site! Volunteers are needed to run special programming and lead students in engaging activities.
