Goals
POST is employing four (4) basic goals in working towards its mission to ensure that all school-age children and youth in Mecklenburg County have access to high-quality programs, activities, and opportunities when school is closed. For each goal there is a lengthy list of supporting objectives and strategies.
- Advocate for the needs of school-age youth and their families
- Increase support for afterschool opportunities by fostering national, statewide, regional and local partnerships, including the POST Steering Committee, Children’s Alliance, NC Child Care Commission, NC AfterSchool Coalition, NCCAP, NAA, and Cross-Cities Network
- Raise local awareness of the importance of afterschool opportunities by hosting celebration of Lights on Afterschool 2007
- Raise public and private funds for new middle school afterschool programs in Mecklenburg County
- Coach program practitioners serving youth
- Conduct regular training sessions
- Provide technical assistance as needed to community organizations
- Coordinate regular networking opportunities through MASAP and MOST
- Serve as a clearinghouse for information on programs, quality, funding, policy, and professional development.
- Increased usage of POST website
- Increased distribution and usage of POSTings
- Create map of Charlotte-Mecklenburg out-of-school time programs
- Act as a catalyst in connecting public and private sector into collaborative structure of Middle School Matters.
